How Big Do They Get?

While at the carnival, two friends had each purchased pretty balloons. The girl with the red ribbon in her hair pulled her balloon into her hands, and squeezed it a little. Although her balloon was big and pretty, she could not help but notice that it felt as if it could hold more helium.

The vendor giggled. “Of course I always leave a little room inside, so they only pop when people want them too, and not by accident.”

“Really?” asked the girl with the yellow hat. “But how big CAN they get?”

“Yeah! Do you know how much they hold?” asked the girl with the red ribbon.

“Gee, I don’t really know.” The balloon vendor lied. She knew exactly how much they held . . . but could not resist showing off every now and then either. “How about we find out?”

The girls loved the idea, and watched as the balloon seller hooked up a pretty blue balloon to a hose, and connected the other end to her large helium tank.

“Here it goes!” said the balloon vendor, as she turned on the tank.

The girls watched happily, as the balloon grew and grew. It became much larger than their own balloons, and even though its neck stretched outward, it still got even larger.

How much larger would it get? Only the vendor really knew; and the girls were going to find out!
